Staff Picks: Michele Johnson

Omlet, Staff Picks: Michele Johnson, Marin Magazine

Each month or so, we'll pick a staff member at the magazine to find out some of their favorite spots for dining out in the county. This month:

Michele Johnson, Advertising Director

So what do you do Michele? I help companies connect with our amazing audience!

Where do you live? Novato

Where do you go for a quick lunch? Café Del Soul with locations in Mill Valley and San Rafael, for healthy plant based options. My favorite dish is the Curry Delicious Salad, it’s red leaf lettuce, spinach, brown rice, almonds and cranberry tossed in their house-made mustard-curry dressing. I also add tofu for protein, which I never thought I’d like but with this dish it works.

What’s your weekend brunch spot? Toast in Novato, there’s something for everyone, but a traditional breakfast is our favorite meal. My order? The Breakfast Omelet, it’s filled with roasted tomatoes, mozzarella and avocado, with a side of pancakes….always!!

Where do you go for a special night out? Frantoio Ristorante in Mill Valley for yummy food and ambience in that awesome dining room. Lovely lighting! My go to order is Fettucine Verde e Gamberi with house made spinach fettuccine, tiger prawns, English peas, fresh tomatoes, tarragon and white wine garlic sauce. And OMG!! A must is the Sweet Potato Gratin side dish. YUM!! We shouldn’t only eat sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving, right?

What’s your under-the-radar spot?  The Depot Hotel Restaurant in Sonoma. It’s not really a hotel. The food is spectacular and we love the outdoor patio.  Its always a toss up for me, I either order the Dungeness Crab Cannelloni or the Grilled Filet of Salmon.

Where do you go for sushi? Sushi to Dai For San Rafael; we love their extensive selection of rolls. Usually my husband and I will invite our family to join us and we always order at least 8-10 different rolls, including Mojojojo, the Green Monster and the Dragon roll.
