In 1978, at age 16, Jay Blakesberg’s father loaned him a Pentax camera to take pictures at a Grateful Dead concert in his home state of New Jersey. That was the beginning of a 40-year adventure photographing the rock and roll experience. This exhibit presents many of his iconic photographs taken on and off stage for the last 40 years.

This Australian singer songwriter really needs no introduction. We fell in love with his ukulele playing on his hit song “Riptide,” and continued to love his sultry voice on, “Fire and the Flood,” and “Mess Is Mine.” His latest album, Nation of Two, was released February 23.

These musicians promise to bring the house down. Melvin Seals was a longtime member of the Jerry Garcia Band, Greg Anton was the co-founding member with Steve Kimock and the drummer for Zero, Stu Allen joined Melvin Seals &JGB in 2004, Lebo is the lead guitarist and singer of ALO, Stephanie Salva is an up and coming vocalist, and John-Paul McLean is an extraordinary bassist who also plays with Melvin Seals and JGB.

Three beloved and accomplished singer-songwriters in their own rite (Dar Williams is my favorite storyteller), these three musicians formed Cry, Cry, Cry in 1998 and released their first album that year followed by a sold-out nationwide tour. There will be standing room only tickets available at the door after the show has started.

King Krule is an English singer, rapper, songwriter, record producer, and musician. His music has been described as punk jazz, dark wave, and hip hop. Hits include, “Easy Easy,” “Out Getting Ribs,” and “A Lizard State.”

Judas Priest is an English heavy metal band whose albums have sold over 50 million copies. Hit songs include, “Breakin’ the Law,” “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin,’” and “Painkiller.”

I’ve written about these amazing local musicians in the past and had the pleasure of interviewing Ryan Scott, the trumpet player, for my music blog back in February. They deliver R&B and soul like you’ve never quite heard it before.

The Fleet Foxes’ first album was playing while I was shopping at Green Apple Bookstore in San Francisco years ago, and I loved it so much I sat in the corner of the New Release section to hear the entire album. Their harmonies are mesmerizing and otherworldly. Hits include, “White Winter Hymnal,” and “Helplessness Blues.”

Shelby Lynne is an American singer-songwriter who won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist with the release of I Am Shelby Lynne in 1999. Since 2008 she has started her own record label and released three albums.

Los Lonely Boys are an American Chicano band from Texas, and they call their style of music “Texican rock n’ roll.” They’ve been playing together since 1996. Hits include, “Heaven,” and “More Than Love.”

They are the best gypsy punk band around – it’s worth going to check out their stellar, high-energy show just to find out what gypsy punk rock is!

Dave Chapelle is a comedy legend and John Mayer is a Grammy-award winning musician whose hits include, “Gravity,” and “Your Body is a Wonderland,” and who’s also been playing with Bob Weir and Dead and Company. Both infamous in their own rite, I can’t wait to see what this evening has in store for us.
