The Art of Holiday Shopping on One of the Best Little Retail Streets in Marin

'Tis the season for gift giving which often translates into a series of anxiety attacks and mega-stress for many holiday shoppers. If you strategize correctly and haven’t already copped out by buying everything online, holiday shopping can in fact (dare I say?) be almost pleasurable.

Many smaller, neighborhood business districts in Marin host special holiday shopping events which can be far preferable to the frantic parking crisis and mobs at a mall. Caledonia Street in Sausalito –– one of the best little retail streets in Marin –– will be staging just such an event this Thursday, December 4th, 5-9 p.m. The Caledonia Street “Holiday Shopping Night Out” promises a festive and fun shopping experience, holiday treats and many in-store specials.

Participating Caledonia Street merchants include: gr.dano Boutique & Design Studio, Bluebird Yarn and Fiber Crafts, Pine Street Natural Interiors, Core Pilates Sausalito, Yoga of Sausalito, Lisa Lebow on Caledonia, Katya Glass Jewelry, Sara Swell Jewelry, Lili Salon and Studio 333. Participating restaurants are Osteria Divino, Fast Food Francais, Sushi Ran, Drivers Market, Smitty's Bar and Cibo. The merchants will all stay open late, welcoming shoppers with hot mulled wine, hot cocoa, spiced cider and cookies, special discounts, holiday décor and music; the restaurants will also be offering holiday specials that evening.

Personally, I think the drink and shop, shop and drink, shop and eat program is very inspiring (just be sure you have a designated driver or an UBER ride home). I find it makes the crush of holiday shopping far more tolerable, plus I always feel good about supporting my local merchants. So think about staying local and shopping local; support the small businesses in your hometown.
