Art and Wine at Madrigal Winery in Sausalito

The Madrigal Family Winery tasting room at 819 Bridgeway in Sausalito has recently expanded their purview and is now showcasing fine art along with fine wines from their Napa vineyard. It’s a perfect pairing.

The street front location was an art gallery for many years before becoming a wine tasting venue, so the layout and the walls lend themselves well to art. The “tasting salon and gallery,” as it is now called, has begun hosting a wide range of artists, rotating work throughout the year.

This Friday, February 26, there will be a reception, book signing and art installation featuring Simin Massoudi paintings and drawings. Earlier this year, Sausalito artist Kay Carlson’s lush oil paintings of the wine country and waterfront were featured. “The American Car: A Family Portrait” featuring the work of Gale S. McKee was another recent exhibit.

Since the late 1930's, three generations of the Madrigal family have farmed some of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards. Today, the winery is run by Chris Madrigal (the founder's grandson) and is located on Highway 29 on 40 acres of estate vineyards where they produce about 6,000 cases of wine a year, specializing in Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Gewurztraminer, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc and small lots of single vineyard and estate wines. My personal favorites are their reds: the Napa Valley Estate Tempranillo, their Petit Sirahs, the Sonnet #63 Red Wine and a yummy 2012 Cabernet Franc.

And now of course, you can enjoy them all at their tasting room in Sausalito – a venue that is as much a welcoming, contemporary sitting room, as it is a wine bar, where visitors can sip, savor and share together.

The Massoudi work will be on display through March 7 and the wine shop/gallery is open daily 12–7 p.m., closed on Wednesdays.
