Home – Designed For You: Tineke Triggs [sponsored]

Decker Bullock Sotheby’s International Realty caught up with designer Tineke Triggs at this year’s edition of the San Francisco Decorator Showcase. Triggs is the powerhouse designer behind Artistic Designs for Living, a San Francisco-based design firm lending its chic, considered interiors to some of the finest homes in the SF Bay Area.

We meet in her bedroom, that is, the master suite of 298 Chestnut Street. Perched atop the four level-home, the light-filled space looks north over the Bay with unobstructed, panoramic views of Marin.

Triggs tells us that her design concept for the master suite was inspired by the love story between David Bowie and his beautiful wife Iman. “It’s all about their connection. There are elements of both their dynamic personalities – part rock star, part super model – yet they do not compete. It’s a symbiotic balance of style and character, much like their relationship,” says Triggs.

Trigg’s aesthetic for the master suite is clean and contemporary with geometric elements used throughout the space to create a sense of balance between their personalities. A sophisticated palette of black, gold and cream reflect Iman’s timeless glamour while modern furnishings and angular forms speak to Bowie’s more edgy persona. The overall mood is light and airy, inspired by the calming transformation Iman brought to Bowie’s life. Triggs envisioned the suite as a sacred hideaway for these two special souls to unwind and reconnect at the end of each day.

Our favorite design elements included; dramatic pendant lighting by Orche, a plush sofa by Verellan, a console and caned armchair by Baker Furniture, coffee table by Jiun Ho, and a custom bench by Hewn. Triggs also designed a number of bespoke pieces and products for the space from nightstands to bathroom tiles.

Triggs founded Artistic Designs for Living in 2001 and has since created one of San Francisco’s preeminent design firms working in the city and Marin County. She has a unique ability to transform interiors using a combination of left and right brain thinking and bespoke product sourcing to create fresh designs that are both beautiful and accessible.

We visit the endearing Triggs at her sprawling loft studio on Union Street. It’s bustling, busy and buzzing with energy. Triggs offers us an inside look at her creative space to learn about her process and talk about this summer’s top design trends for Marin locales and prospective home buyers.
