Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts (YBCA), San Francisco, is pleased to present Civic Radar, the first U.S. retrospective devoted to the influential media artist and feminist art pioneer Lynn Hershman Leeson. Originally organized and exhibited by ZKM | Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Germany, this remarkable exhibition spans the length of Hershman Leeson’s career to date, from the early 1960s to the present. Presented are Hershman Leeson's drawings, paintings, and sculptures from the early 1960s, as well as significant examples of Leeson’s performance, installation, and conceptual work, which highlight her enthusiasm for changing media and exploring the effects of modern technology on the self, particularly as it relates to the female subjectivity. This unprecedented retrospective marks an important milestone in the history of the feminist and media art movements.
