The event will take place over 10 days (March 24-April 9, 2017), with a “West Marin Faire” April 1st, 1-10pm. There will be a section of the gallery space dedicated just to Gallery Route One. The Faire will consist of West Marin music, food, vendors and sponsors. All are inspired by our shared West Marin existence.

The show highlights the effects of a shared environment on this rural arts community and the vibrancy that exists alongside the hiking, vistas and gastronomy of the area.  Included will be photography, fiber art, painting, wood cut and sculpture.

RHIZOSPHERE is curated by Isis Hokenos.  Currently a Young Artist Fellow at Gallery Route One in Point Reyes Station and an artist in residence at an art space in the Bayview/Dogpatch district of SF.  As part of her residency she is putting on this art faire / show. Hokenos states “Seeing the way that the artists in West Marin absorb the qualities of our shared environment; moisture, wind, a particular slant of light, the dusting of chipped paint on the seat of ones pants, and how from that we each produce work that results from but is not representational of the environment, has been hugely influential in the way that I have come to understand what it means to be an artist. My vision for this event is to celebrate West Marin artists of all generations. Part of my hope is that this event will bring more exposure to artists living and working in West Marin. I hope to remind West Marin enthusiasts that there is a vibrant community of working artists here that exist beyond the elk and oysters and vistas and hopefully this will increase support of the arts in the area and also bridge the generational gap among its artists. This is something that I have seen brought into focus through my current fellowship at Gallery Route One. In order for us to maintain a community of artists in an increasingly challenging economic climate we need to support one another and to learn from each other, both young and old.”
