Behind the Scenes at the Kitchen Tour

It was three decades ago when board members of the Belvedere-Hawthorne Nursery Schools created their annual kitchen tour fundraiser. In the beginning approximately 300 people attended the event and in recent years it has grown to 1,100 attendees. The 30th-anniversary tour on February 5th showcases six diverse kitchens in Belvedere and Tiburon and includes chef demonstrations and a much-talked-about raffle where the winner of a $5 ticket can recieve prizes like a Dacor kitchen, a seven-day cruise or trip to Hawaii (with airfare!), a Napa Valley wine adventure with dinner at the French Laundry, a San Francisco escape with a meal at Michael Mina or a Tiburon getaway with a seaplane tour and two nights at the Waters Edge Hotel. Committee member Delia Peterson says proceeds from the tour are used for upkeep of the schools and financial support for teachers. “Last year we raised $100,000 and we hope to do the same this year,” she adds.

Shuttles leave from the San Francisco Yacht Club in Belvedere on February 5 from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. and the cost of the tour is $40 to $45. Lunch is available for purchase at the yacht club. 415.490.2767, belvedere-hawthorne.com
