Summer’s here and the time is right for dancing in the street, and in the sequoias, and by a river, and under the stars. Northern California’s music fests bring a stellar combination of sounds, food, wine and fun to beautiful settings, all within a few hours of Marin.



HUICHICA MUSIC FESTIVAL JUNE 8–9

At this wine, food and music show on four stages at Sonoma Valley’s Gundlach Bundschu Winery, the lineup features Wooden Shjips, Jonathan Richman, King Tuff and Vetiver. huichica.com


COUNTRY SUMMER JUNE 15–17

It’s advertised as Northern California’s premier country music festival and Sonoma County’s biggest party. The starry roster includes Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town, Toby Keith, Maren Morris and Granger Smith. Tent and RV camping are available. countrysummer.com


STERN GROVE MUSIC FESTIVAL JUNE 17–AUGUST 19

This free weekly event, going strong since 1938, brings concerts to a sylvan San Francisco amphitheater. The 81st season kicks off with a “Big Picnic” featuring Peabo Bryson and Jeffrey Osborne and continues on Sundays through mid-August. sterngrove.org


KATE WOLF FESTIVAL JUNE 28–JULY 1

The amazing show happens on 150 acres at Black Oak Ranch, with four stages, on-site camping, a gentle creek and an international food court. Acts include Los Lobos, Indigo Girls, Keb’ Mo’, Ani DiFranco, Joan Osborne, Martha Reeves and Leftover Salmon. There’s also yoga, a ukulele jam session, open mic and more. HIGH SIERRA FESTIVAL JULY 5–JULY 8

The String Cheese Incident (two nights), Sturgill Simpson, Lettuce, the Wood Brothers, the California Honeydrops, and Lebo and Friends are among the talent. REDWOOD RAMBLE JULY 12–JULY 15

The fifth annual Redwood Ramble brings artists Sam Bush, Keller Williams, New Monsoon, the Real Sarahs and Steve Poltz to Camp Navarro in Mendocino County. Proceeds this year support nonprofit Bread and Roses Presents in bringing live music to disadvantaged and marginalized people. redwoodramble.com


FESTIVAL NAPA VALLEY JULY 20-29

This year marks the 13th season of the annual summer celebration that brings energizing performances in magical wine country settings, paired with Napa Valley’s exceptional food, wine and hospitality. This season’s highlights include the world premiere of The Red Violin by Joshua Bell, Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth headlining the Arts for All Gala, and Grupo Compay Segundo coming straight from Havana for their first performance in the U.S. in 20 years. festivalnapavalley.org


GUITARFISH FESTIVAL JULY 26–29

An “intimate camping and music experience in a magical setting,” on the south fork of the Yuba River at the Cisco Grove Campground, this year features Con Brio, Pimps of Joytime, Dead Winter Carpenters, Afrolicious and Pamela Parker. PETALUMA MUSIC FESTIVAL AUGUST 4

Railroad Earth, the Brothers Comatose, Melvin Seals and JGB, the Coffis Brothers and Afrofunk Experience play on three livemusic stages; a guitar raffle and silent auction are also part of the event. Proceeds help fund music programs in Petaluma public schools. petalumamusicfestival.org


OUTSIDE LANDS AUGUST 10–12
