Billed as “Marin’s most unique art show,” the Altered Book Exhibit and Fundraiser is Marin Museum of Contemporary Art’s biggest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds supporting its exhibition programs for up to 450 emerging and established artists. It also supports the museum’s educational programs such as the art enrichment program for all fourth and fifth graders in the Novato Unified School District, and monthly free family days.

This year, Altered Book featured more than 135 original book art objects created and donated by both local and national artists. Visitors to the museum at Hamilton Field in Novato were able to view the artworks in person, then bid for them online auction-style over the course of five weeks. The event has a particularly strong following amongst book art aficionados who return year-after-year to see the show.

Once again, Donna Seager, owner of Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, and Mary Austin, Co-Founder of the San Francisco Center for the Book, juried this year’s exhibit selections. The duo announced the award winners during a live stream art talk on April 24, which also kicked off the five-week exhibition and online auction.

This year’s event raised more than $45,000 and included a challenge match provided by the Donald O. & Ronald R Collins Fund. Sponsors included Bank of Marin, Black Cat Studio, Harvest Market and Alders Financial Solutions.
