250 Marin Humane supporters, some of whom brought their furry friends along with them, gathered at the nonprofit’s Novato campus on Sept. 14 for Tails by Twilight — the organization’s annual, signature fundraising event.

iHeart Radio’s Marcus D. emceed the evening which included a vegan dinner by Sage Catering. Beverages were donated by Rescue Dog Wines, Thirty-Seven Wines, Bear Republic and Drake’s Brewing Co. The Jules Broussard Quartet performed for the crowd.

Marin Humane Board President Sandy Monticelli shared stories about the organization’s impact, along with its need for funding for facility improvements, especially canine housing. Guests had a chance to meet and hold some of the evening’s beneficiaries — a mix of adorable shelter puppies.

Following dinner, the live auction, headed by John Curley as auctioneer, offered up visits to an elephant sanctuary not open to the public, a trip to Ireland and a chance to have one’s beloved pet on next year’s Tails by Twilight invitation.

The event raised $600,000 by its conclusion.

A freelance writer in Marin who writes about family, kids and parenting, Glass is the mother to one son, one dog and a hamster named Miss Geri. When she’s not writing, trekking up steep hills in Marin or driving her kid to sports practice, she and her family spend time in their tiny cabin in Lake Tahoe. She avidly supports the California Academy of Sciences, a world class science museum and research institution, and the Institute on Aging which provides much needed services to Bay Area seniors and disabled adults. Glass is obsessed with baking the perfect loaf of banana bread, something she makes so often she no longer needs to look at a recipe card.
