Some people are natural gardeners, like my co-worker who has amassed a menagerie of beleaguered office plants –– one of them being mine, who was doing just fine being neglected and only started acting up (read: dying) when I began watering him/her/it. One of my best friends also has an innate curiosity about all things flora, but others, myself included, could use a little help. And for the florally illiterate, there is hope, however. Armstrong Garden Centers invites California gardeners of all skill levels to its free upcoming classes. Each workshop will encourage attendees to nurture their green thumbs with a wide range of topics from organic gardening to caring for orchids. Classes will be held at all 32 store locations throughout California. This weekend’s offering include rose pruning at 9am, where through demonstration you’ll learn now to keep the plants healthy and promote pretty blooms. 11 a.m. will bring fruit tree pruning basics.
