What do you think is the most iconic American image? Is it the Statue of Liberty? Is it Beyoncé or is it a buffalo on the range? If you have a mobile device (is there someone who doesn't?), you can compete in the 3rd Annual American Icon Art Competition sponsored by the Sausalito Art Festival. This year's competition invites artists and photographers of all skill levels –– professionals or amateurs, students, social networking mavents, artsts and all creative types –– to submit mobile device images of what they feel is the consummate American icon. Clearly, the possibilities are endless.
If you don’t want to compete for the prize money, you can simply submit your work online. The submission guidelines are simple. To enter the official competition, go to americanicon.net. To post for free and compete for the People’s Pick award, post your images via your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at #MyAmericanIcon. Get the most “likes” and you could win. If you enter into the official competition you can compete for prize money and a coveted place in the multi-media American Icon exhibit at this year’s Art Festival (Labor Day Weekend) August 30-September 1.
It’s about inviting everyone to seek their inner creativity and be inspired. I think it will be a fascinating sociological study to review and analyze what is submitted. What is an American icon? And what is yours?
