What do you do when your favorite bakery-cafe offers a pop-up dinner event?
Perhaps you know MH Bread & Butter – San Anselmo's artisan bakery-cafe, opened in 2013 by Nathan Yanko, a master baker formerly of Tartine bakery and his wife, Devon, a personal chef with a holistic bent. By now you've likely sampled their top notch artisan breads (olive, buckwheat, spelt, to name a few), indulged in their flaky real-deal croissants and unbelievably gluten-free muffins. Or perhaps you've dined on their vibrant salad bowls, cheesy tartines, and farmers market inspired two-fisted sandwiches, turned out of the kitchen daily by chef Arielle Segal.
What you might not know is this bakery-cafe and local hotspot by day transforms itself, every second Thursday, into a hopping pop-up dinner venue by night. A theme is set (Tacos, Malaysian Street Food, Killer Burgers and Oysters, for example) and a menu is available online or in the cafe a few days preceding each event. And it's no surprise that the food doesn't disappoint – especially with the likes of David Wilcox, the former acclaimed chef of Mill Valley Beerworks, teaming up with Arielle, and helming the dinner.
Last month David rolled into town, creating a Crab Shack Menu that included Fresh Dungeness Crab, Mussels with Roasted Fennel and Preserved Meyer Lemon, and Salt Cod Brandade, accompanied by a bounty of roasted, grilled and charred farmers market vegetables. Oh, and all of this was accompanied by a curated selection of wines and Headlands Beer on tap.
