Marine Mammal Center Sunday

Did any of you use these those Target music kiosks when you were growing up? You know, ones similar to these (pictured right) but the older version with a big plastic panel of buttons that you pressed for rousing sounds like “rainforest” or “humid summer night in the Everglades.” Ok, I made up that last one, but you get the drift. Anyway, since I was obsessed with whales (like every other girl in the third grade was at that time, maybe it was Free Willy’s influence… that would probably it) I would stand there pushing the "whale sounds" button over and over. Though the thing is: I never really liked the sounds. They were wailing whales after all, pretty boring stuff. But my love for the huge cetaceans made me trudge through that lameness and now the opportunity has finally arisen to put the knowledge of those not-so-stirring songs to use.

This Sunday you, too, can come learn all about what the mammals are trying to say at Marine Mammal Sounds: What Are They Saying? The free ocean-inspired series is led by education experts who also recommend teaming up for free classroom programs at 12 pm and 2 pm with a docent-led tour at 11 am, 1 pm or 3 pm for a truly immersive marine mammal experience.

Ed. note: Those kiosks were called Lifescapes.
