Sausalito Art Festival Foundation Announces 2013 Leonard Kaprielian Grants

If you thought the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation's community efforts were limited to their annual celebration, you'd be wrong—In fact, all proceeds from the festival are given back to the community in the form of grants, awards and schloarships.

The foundation's Leonard Kaprielian Grants (named for board member and volunteer Leonard Kaprielian) typically range from $500 to $10,000, with prefence given to Sausalito-based groups. Chosen recipients embody the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation's commitment to "encourage, promote, and support the arts for the community."

Fresh off the press release, here are this year's awesome organizations:

Friends of the Sausalito Public Library: $2,496  to allow library patrons to attend the Fine Arts Museums in San Francisco free of charge. The allotted tickets will be used to supplement funded docent lectures at the Museum.

Mill Valley Philharmonic: $3,000 for the staging of the annual Spring 2013 concert series, and the winners of the Mill Valley Philharmonic Concerto Competition.

Golden Gate Opera: $5,000 to support its annual education outreach to Marin County Schools. Opera players are brought into the schools in full costume for each opera performed.

Sausalito Historical Society: $2,000 for a new Summer exhibit called "Sausalito Sets Sail", which will focus on the rise of yacht sailing popularity. Components of the exhibition will be featured in locales throughout Sausalito.

Sausalito Sister City Committee: $1,275 to provide scholarships for three worthy students to participate in traveling to Sakaide Japan in Summer 2013. Students will stay with host families and be involved in cultural and enrichment opportunities.

Sausalito Village: $2,500 to provide transportation to Sausalito Seniors to cultural activities and events. Funding will be used for approximately 100 hours of transportation, parking and toll fees.

Sausalito Presbyterian Church: $4,500 matching grant for the purchase of new video equipment and upgrading of the current audio equipment for the theatre.
