The era of Christopher Columbus and extravagant ships is behind us and it seems unimaginable to be living in a time without the modern conveniences we have today. Anytime I go somewhere new my phone takes me to the doorstep and getting lost is becoming a thing of the past. However, in 1492 Columbus went west without Siri telling him when to “take the next right.”
If you are curious about what it would be like to be on one of these ancient vessels, there is a place to find out! This Saturday, Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority is offering a three hour battle-themed sail. You will get a tiny glimpse of what it was like to live on an 18th century battleship. Passengers will be able to raise the sails, participate in innocent taunting of the “enemy.” If you are not interested in the voyage, there will be a free self-guided dockside tour available on Friday.
