August Issue -Editors' Choice, Red Bull Youth and the Best Pediatricians in the area.

Better late then never!  As we’ve shipped the September issue to the printers last week, I realized I missed a shout out to the August issue.  First of all I love the cover. Art director, Veronica Sooley came up with the brilliant idea of asking Susie Cakes Bakery in Greenbrae to write Editors’ Choice 2013 right on the cake, it worked, and the best part was eating it after Tim Porter got the shot!

Besides the tasty cover, this was our Editors’ Choice issue – one of my favorites because we now incorporate a party to congratulate and basically thank the awardees for making Marin County one of the best places to live. It’s not easy to name 101 recipients in two hours (along with tasty food and drinks being served) but professional emcee Marc Hershon did a great job as did Jimmy Dillon who played guitar when Marc took breaks. As for the text we celebrated legends amongst us such as fashion designer Melody Sabatasso and Russ the barber of Mill Valley, who sadly passed away this summer as well was introduced you to the latest hot spots including Barrel House Tavern and Casa Madrona’s new uber party room both in Sausalito. Check out photos on our Facebook page for highlights. Huge kudos go to Tim Porter for once again photographing most of this feature. My favorite this year was the photo of the cheese. Sean Cope’s photo of Angel Island opened the feature – (thanks Sean!) this photo was taken while he was riding in a Seaplane Adventure plane, and is a hold over from a previous feature he shot for us. Sean also put together the Editors' Choice video

Stephanie Martin introduces our readers to the Red Bull America’s Cup Youth Team sailing for the U.S. based in Tiburon. I was able to meet these “kids” when I tagged along with Sean Cope for the photo shoot, they were polite, sweet and ready to sail. Many sailing enthusiast are saying these races (Sept. 1-4) will be the most exciting to watch this summer!

Next PJ Bremier writes on her all-time favorite topic–animals! PJ fosters puppies for adoption herself, has rescued two wild mustangs with her sister Valerie and was the first person we thought of when it came to writing a story on adopting the right pet.

Parents of Marin can rejoice as the August issue includes the latest list of peer-reviewed top pediatricians along with the excellent insights of veteran parenting writer, Dawn Margolis Denberg.

Anyone remember waiting in line at the House of Nanking in San Francisco’s North Beach? Well the owner, Peter Fang’s daughter, Kathy has grown up and is now a food blogger and author. Calin Van Paris shares Fong’s recipe for healthy fried rice in Flavor.

And last but not least, in our home department, Laura Hilgers introduces us to Peter and Heidi Callowhill, who couldn’t be happier in their new Larkspur home

If you haven't already, please enjoy the August issue … the September issue is coming soon!
