With its sailing team out on its foiling AC45, Artemis Racing confirmed its participation as a challenger in this summer's America's Cup events. The status of its challenge was in question as the team mourned the loss of teammate Andrew "Bart" Simpson, who was lost during an accident on San Francisco on May 9.
Artemis Racing's CEO Paul Cayard said in a statement today: “We are working around-the-clock to get our new boat ready, in the water and to prepare our team to race. We still have a mountain to climb, but our plan is to launch our new boat in early July and get ourselves in a position where we can race by the end of the month.”
While the sailing team tunes up on the water, the design team is back in the shed, working furiously to get its second AC72 race-ready as the clock ticks down to the start of the Louis Vuitton Cup series on July 7.
With the announcement, event organizers shared an update schedule for the summer that includes more rest days in between races to allow for more maintenance time of the boats.
