After the Storm

Winter is Marin’s season of surprise. Adieu, summer fog, so predictable. Adios, fall balm, so bland. Welcome, winter turbulence, so unstable.

Erratic and capricious, winter plays the artist, assembling each storm with a surge of clouds, halos and rays, some dark, some luminous, some wrapped in the ribbon of an arcing rainbow, and all dependent on the whims of any moment’s peculiar meteorology.

These are theatrics on a large scale, staged on the magnificent proscenium of Marin’s landscape. As all good dramatic playwrights do, winter makes sure to wow ‘em in the final act. The calm after a winter storm is no mere epilogue, but instead an elaborate ensemble call—all hands on stage! The entire cast emerges and unabashedly entreats the audience to stay, promising to reward its patience with an encore.

Scenes like this one—the final act of a winter storm playing to an audience of waterfowl on the Sausalito waterfront—await those who linger.
