View from Mount Tam

January is a time for reflection on the year just gone and anticipation of the one just begun. We enter 2007 deeply grateful for how welcoming the community has been to Marin Magazine. This issue marks the official beginning of Volume 3, our third year of publishing. Since Volume 1, Number 1, in April 2005, time has sped by. Our thanks to all of you—readers and advertisers—who have made it possible.

Speaking of time on the move, January is not too soon to plan for a June wedding. That’s why we’re devoting a large percentage of this issue to the details of wedding planning. In FYI Weddings, contributor Heather O’Neill tells us about encore weddings (the second—or third, fourth or fifth—time around). In “The Big Day,” writer Samantha Berry highlights five local dream weddings. And inserted in the magazine this month is our Second Annual Wedding Resource Guide, which can also be viewed at marinmagazine.com.

If the wedding planning proves to be too stressful (or the reception overly caloric), we have a couple of ways to chill out or burn it off. FYI Fitness is all about indoor endorphins, and our Play department explains why high-energy Middle Eastern belly dancing is more than just a colorful pastime.

This month’s Home story takes you inside the home kitchens of well-known Marin chefs Farina Wong Kingsley, Roxanne Klein and Scott Howard. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet these chefs at the Kitchen Matrix showroom in the San Francisco Design Center during the Winter Mart on January 25th. Grab your favorite interior designer and join us there.

Meet Lucy Mercer, the Mill Valley visionary who brought 142 Throckmorton Theatre to life in Conversation, and learn about her process for creating community. In Dialogue, Elaine Petrocelli of Book Passage shares her enthusiasm for her legendary store. In Microclimate, we explore the historical and charming West Marin town of Inverness.

As always, our wish is for your good reading. Enjoy Marin Magazine, as we continue to celebrate this extraordinary place!
