October marks the beginning of the traditional harvest season and editor-at-large Tim Porter celebrates its arrival by profiling eight of Marin County’s organic farmers and ranchers. The profiles are excerpted from Organic Marin: Recipes from Land to Table, the new cookbook produced by Marin Magazine.
In Home, P. J. Bremier takes us inside the East-meets-West lives of Lionel and Stacy Achuck, whose lovely homes in Tiburon and Hawaii blend their Asian family heritage with their thoroughly California and sustainable lifestyle, including artificial turf! In Auto, we meet Tom Price, one of Marin’s most prominent auto dealers and a renowned collector of high-end vintage cars. From a twin of the 1960 Ferrari Matthew Broderick drove in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to a 1948 Jaguar convertible just like Clark Gable owned, Price’s cars all have a story to tell.
This month we found it takes two stories to cover tango. In Journey, Julie Keller packs her dancing shoes for a trip to Buenos Aires and an Argentine tango adventure; in Performing Arts.
Across the bridge, the new California Academy of Sciences is opening in Golden Gate Park and Conversation receives a backstage tour when we chat with Bill Patterson, the Ross resident who chairs the academy’s Board of Trustees.
Also in this issue, Marin musician Jonathan Korty tells us about music maker Austin de Lone’s fundraising efforts in FYI People; Somer Flaherty dons a spray skirt to report on Marin kayaking in Play; Jane Ganahl introduces us to Sausalito documentary filmmaker Andy Wilson in FYI Film; Dialogue tosses some straight lines at funnyman Mark Pitta; and Microclimate wanders about Corinthian Island.
As always, our wish is for your good reading. Enjoy Marin Magazine, as we continue to celebrate this extraordinary place!
