View from Mt. Tam

Everyone’s going green these days, but converting our culture from one that exploits the planet into one that preserves it requires more than good intentions—we need innovation, hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. In Think, Mandy Behbehani profiles five green innovators who possess those characteristics, from a solar inventor in Bolinas to a biomimicry pioneer in San Rafael.

In Home this month. P. J. Bremier highlights a Mill Valley couple who have created a family compound on their spacious parcel of land. Bay Area architect Scott McGlashan designed this unique project using only the greenest of materials and energy-efficient technologies—including multiple living roofs abundant with wildflowers and drought-resistant grasses.

Photographer Sasha Gulish commandeers the streets of Mill Valley for Fashion in order to showcase designs for moms and daughters than can cure (or maybe induce) spring fever.

Also in this issue, we debut Real Estate Pulse, a quarterly column by Ian Charles on the local housing market; Conversation sits down with Assemblyman Jared Huffman; FYI People spotlights Google prizewinner Chris Hulls of Point Reyes Station; and Dialogue questions West Marin ecologist Penny Livingston.

As always, our wish is for your good reading. Enjoy Marin Magazine, as we continue to celebrate this extraordinary place!
