We were told that we were to sign a contract, agreeing to weekly mandatory rehearsals, and a commitment to compete in the Miss California pageant if we won.
After the introductions, we practiced our opening dance number, and rehearsed our runway walks, including how and where to turn and smile. We were all clapping for each other, and I actually felt like a princess. Toward the end, we practiced the “current event” segment, which is when a former winner asks a question about an issue or event having an impact today. Everyone was a little nervous, but we were told that by the time of the pageant, we will be well prepared.
I already feel this was a fantastic decision and will be a memorable adventure (I just have to learn how to walk in heels without looking down!). On November 20th, I will walk down the stage in my bright pink swimsuit and embrace this opportunity to shine.
