SNAP recipients will lose their benefits starting November 1 due to the government shutdown. According to Marin Community Foundation, more than 15,000 Marin County residents rely on this vital assistance.
But there are already those within our community, including some of our local businesses, who have stepped up to help out those who will soon lose access to food. Here are three local businesses that are offering free food to SNAP recipients.
Update: On November 4, the Marin County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved to allocate $800,000 in emergency funding to help SNAP/CalFresh recipients. Marin officials will work closely with Marin County Foundation (MCF) and SF-Marin Food Bank to distribute the funds. Visit SF-Marin Food Bank to find more food assistance options, or ways to donate and volunteer.
