26.2 to Life Film with Uncommon Law and SURJ Marin
September 22 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$17
On Friday, September 22 at 7pm at The Rafael Theater, SURJ Marin is gathering to support UnCommon Law and the exclusive film premiere of 26.2 TO LIFE. This exclusive film premiere of the acclaimed documentary, 26.2 to Life, goes behind the walls of San Quentin State Prison, where three men sentenced to life in prison for murder undertake running a marathon on a quest for redemption and freedom — or something like it.
It has never been more important to uplift stories about, by, and for people impacted by our country’s over-reliance on extreme sentencing and mass incarceration. Films like this help break down barriers by counteracting long standing dehumanizing narratives about incarcerated people. The film is a powerful reminder that we all possess the capacity for change, and the ability to heal ourselves and those around us.
Incarcerated members of the 1000 Mile Club train all year for a 26.2 mile run behind the walls of San Quentin State Prison. For them, the marathon is more than a race – it’s a chance to be defined by more than their crimes.
Ticket sales for this special benefit screening will support UnCommon Law’s work to provide opportunities for healing and restoration for life-sentenced people in prisons across the state.
The evening will feature a special Q&A panel moderated by @uncommonlawyer Founder and Executive Director Keith Wattley with formerly incarcerated members of the San Quentin 1000 Mile Club, their volunteer coaches, and @sqmarathon filmmaker Christine Yoo.
