The California Seaweed Festival is a free in-person family friendly event celebrating the seaweed diversity of California! The festival will showcase seaweed uses and applications in art, cooking, farming, science, sustainable technology, and conservation. At the all-day event, we will have booths, exhibits, workshops, galleries, and hands-on activities to immerse you and your family in seaweed fun and knowledge. We also encourage the use of masks when in a crowded and enclosed areas, following the California set guidelines.

2 Day Festival has 2 portions:

Opening Event Day – October 7th, more science based – Seaweed Project Presentations
Main Festival Events – October 8th, more Festive and all seaweed topics covered. Activity and workshops included.

Opening Events Day – Seaweed Presentations
Oct 7: 4pm – 9pm

Seaweed Walk :
4 PM Seaweed Walk with the California Seaweed Festival and Dr. Kathy Ann Miller, UC Berkeley.
Walk on the beach and tide pool for seaweed with seaweed experts!
California State University Seaweed Symposium: Highlighting Seaweed Research and Artistic Expertise in the CSU System: 6 – 9pm
Poster Presentations on seaweed research and projects from Cal State University students and faculty
Plenary Speakers Dr. Simona Augyte, alumna of Cal Poly Humboldt, and Josie Iselin, alumna and faculty San Francisco State University
Networking Session and event
MAIN EVENTS DAY – Seaweed Celebration!
Oct 8: 10 am – 6 pm (7pm – 9 pm evening event)

Seaweed Festival – More all ages events
Vendors – Selling seaweed goods (art, food, snacks, cooking demo, goods, crafts, and much more)
Seaweed Art Projects – Kids and Family activity. Get artsy with seaweed art and crafts booth (make cards and decorate cloth!)
Seaweed Loteria – Seaweed Bingo! Win some fun seaweed prizes!
Music – To keep the vibes good
Seaweed Panel Discussions – Marine Plant Based Food, Carbon Discussion, Seaweed Business
Talks on Seaweed – Given by individual Speakers on Seaweed art, science, communication, business, and much more!
The California Seaweed Festival arose from decades of studying seaweeds, admiring their beauty and learning myriad ways that seaweeds make life better. We want to share the beauty and diversity of seaweeds on our coasts.
