Jack London and his wife Charmian loved to entertain other writers, artists, musicians, and like-minded “bohemians” at their home – now Jack London State Historic Park – in Glen Ellen, CA.
Jack London Park Partners will celebrate their unconventional spirit at the Sept. 23 fundraising gala, “Jack’s Bohemian Groove.” Attendees will experience what a visit to their “Beauty Ranch” might have been like for guests of the Londons.
Proceeds of the event support Jack London State Historic Park, which has been operated and funded since 2012 by Jack London Park Partners, one of the first non-profit organizations to be entrusted with management of a state park on behalf of the people of California. California State Parks and Jack London Park Partners recently signed a new agreement to continue the partnership for the next ten years.
“Jack London Park Partners’ annual gala is our most important fundraiser of the year, keeping the park accessible and thriving for all to enjoy,” said Matt Leffert, executive director.
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. in the Eucalyptus Grove with liberal libations and a variety of interactive artistic activities. Listen or sing along with local musical ensembles. Watch a painter capture a live model on canvas or make your own drawing. Listen to poets and craft your own poetry, inspired by the surrounding beauty.
Guests will be welcomed to winery ruins with songs and stories by songwriter John Elliott. Later in the evening, jazz songbird Sony Holland will also entertain.
Jack London Park Partners Executive Director Matt Leffert will recognize significant contributions by four individuals in three categories:
• Philanthropy – Mary Clark Janis.
• Park Advocate – Chris Locke.
• Volunteers – Kathy Hillbeck-Ely and George Ely.
Wines will be provided park partner Eco Terreno Wines & Vineyards, and spirits donated by 3 Badge Beverage Corp. and Hanson of Sonoma Distillery will be featured. Park Avenue Catering will provide a delicious family-style dinner.
A troupe of local dancers will cap the evening, inviting all to take to the stage and dance as the spirit moves them.
The “Jack’s Bohemian Groove” is the creation of Gregangelo’s Velocity Entertainment with hands-on direction by former Sonoma Alcalde Marcelo Defreitas.
