SONY HOLLAND: A Tribute to DUSTY SPRINGFIELD

January 18 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$59

Sony Holland and her stellar band are bringing a brand new show to Feinstein’s at the Nikko, a tribute to British blue-eyed soul icon, Dusty Springfield. Sony’s powerful yet delicate voice pairs perfectly with Dusty’s wide-ranging repertoire. Sony got her start singing for tourists at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf, which led to bookings at Yoshi’s, SFJAZZ, Sweetwater, Fenix, a multi-year stint at the Ritz-Carlton SF, extended tours of Asia, and nightclub stints from New York to L.A. Sony is delighted to be back on Feinstein’s stage for this, the WORLD PREMIERE!
With Dusty’s first international hit in 1963, “I Only Want To Be With You,” she was well on her way to becoming one of England’s most popular recording artists. Burt Bacharach (“Look of Love”) began writing for her in the 60s, as did many others. The hits just kept on coming, as she competed with the Beatles on charts with “Wishin’ and Hopin’”, “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me”, “You Don’t Own Me”, and “Little By Little”. In 1969 her definitive album “Dusty In Memphis” included “Just A Little Loving”, “Windmills Of Your Mind’, and “Son Of A Preacher Man”. Rolling Stone magazine ranked the album #89 from a list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
Ms. Holland says she is really quite taken with Dusty’s story and, of course, her music. Dusty was the first to welcome Motown artists to British television and, as a gay woman navigating superstardom in the 60’s, she inspired a generation of singers… Adele, Chrissie Hynde, Annie Lennox, Shelby Lynne, Amy Winehouse, Lisa Stansfield and more. Dusty was a complex, shy woman and often had to stand her ground when it came to making decisions about songs and recording a specific way. She knew how she wanted everything to sound.
