NYC’s Subatomic Sound System will appear at Sweetwater Music Hall alongside Jamaican MC/vocalist Screechy Dan, on Friday, August 4. The band will be performing a set that will feature some of their collaborations with the late great Lee “Scratch” Perry (producer of Bob Marley & The Wailers), as well as songs with Screechy Dan, like “Champion Sound” & “Babylon Soon Fall.” Founded at the turn of the millennium, Subatomic Sound System has built a rep worldwide for genre-bending dubwise productions, explosive shows, and breaking down barriers with a positive conscious message. They adapt 1970’s Jamaican sound system culture and analog dub reggae techniques to current bass music genres, digital technology, and live performances.
DJ Sep is a long-time Bay Area DJ/producer and the founder of Dub Mission, one of the longest-running Reggae clubs in the world (1996-2019). She spins dub, reggae, dancehall, bass, Jungle/DnB, and Afrobeats. Sep has presented and opened for a long list of reggae and electronic artists, including Lee Perry, The Scientist, Mad Professor, Sister Nancy, Sly & Robbie, Toots and The Maytals, Mykal Rose, Sister Nancy, Mungo’s Hi Fi, The Wailers, Quantic, Akae Beka (aka Midnite), and many others.
