Novato’s iconic Hamilton Hospital — a National Heritage Landmark — has been thoughtfully renovated and repurposed to serve the needs of residents in a new way — as an assisted living and memory support community.
“We believe where you live matters,” said Josh Krull, CEO of Elegance Living. “At Elegance Hamilton Hill, residents can experience a lifestyle of relaxed luxury and holistic well-being. We know that preserving the landmarks and culture is very important to Marin’s longest-standing residents, many of whom have lived here their whole lives. We’re honored to offer them the choice to call a cherished local landmark home with modern amenities, great food, and opportunities to engage with the world every day — and of course, Hamilton Amphitheatre Park is right next door.”
Situated in the heart of Hamilton Field with bay and mountain views, the building was once an overseas staging area for U.S. military personnel headed for service during World War II. Under the expert guidance of partners, Avesta Development Group, Elegance Living and Capital Health Group — working closely with the Novato City Council and neighborhood groups — the community has been thoroughly modernized with an innovative and comprehensive redesign. The renovation complements and enhances Novato’s Hamilton neighborhood while preserving and rehabilitating the architectural integrity of the building’s distinguished Spanish-Colonial presence. The renovation features a courtyard, two on-site restaurants, a rooftop lounge with 270-degree views of the Bay, an art studio and a salon and spa.
The community offers discreet assisted living and memory support services, as well as holistic wellness and exercise programs. Residents enjoy menus of seasonal, nutritious, chef-prepared selections, at their choice of dining venues.
“We know today’s older adults have high expectations for both hospitality and wellness, Krull said. “And while safety has always been a key concern for families when searching for senior living, it’s taken on even greater importance in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are committed to providing a safety-net of care and support families can count on day after day, not just during a pandemic.”
Free from the burdens of cooking, housekeeping and home maintenance, residents are free to participate in robust social and cultural and programs, including those in partnership with The Marin Museum of Contemporary Art. In the coming months, residents can join their neighbors for the community’s year-long “Virtual Voyage” to destinations such as Egypt, India and Germany, featuring foods from each country, films, language lessons, lectures and games. Each resident receives a special passport to track their travels.
“We’re so proud to offer this option for families in Marin who are looking for a way to manage the challenges that can come with growing older,” said Krull. “Here, older people can look forward to a relaxed lifestyle with neighbors and interesting things to do every day, with that helping hand nearby that makes it all easier.”
