Veggie Grill, a chain of all-vegan food restaurants based out of Los Angeles and Orange counties, arrived in Northern California at the Town Center in Corte Madera earlier this month, much to the delight of local vegans. Judging from the fact every seat was taken and there was a line at the counter to order, looks like this type of food demand had been greater than the current supply.
The restaurant is located on the corner of the mall, near the Safeway side of the parking lot. It has a casual feel to it, and plenty of seating. After placing your order at the front counter, they will hand you a number to set on your table and a server will deliver your food. Drinks are self-serve. There is a variety of seating choices, from booths, to cocktail tables and outdoor seating.
Everything served is 100% plant-based food. There is no meat, dairy, eggs, cholesterol, animal fat or trans fat. Even though items say “crab” or “chickin’” it means it is a high protein substitute. The menu is heavy on beans, kale and quinoa.
The menu is divided into snacks and share items, entrée salads, bowls and plates, sandwiches and sides, plus fresh organic teas and lemonade and locally produced beers and wines. Food items range from $3.25 to $10.95 and they offer a reasonably well-priced kids menu at $5.95, which includes an entrée, a side dish and a drink. Veggie Grill offers online ordering as well. The must-have item is the Crispy Cauliflower, pictured right, for $5.95. It is a sweet and spice orange glaze over panko-coated cauliflower.
THE INSIDE SCOOP
Save room for dessert. The carrot cake with Tofutti frosting was delicious.
