Get Outside: 4 Types of Native Flora to Discover on Your Hike

In this bountiful county, there are almost 1,800 species of native plants, including 17 that grow nowhere else. Marin is home to three unique species of jewelflower, tiny plants with stalks bearing delicate purple, cupped blossoms. When walking the trails atop Ring Mountain, you may be lucky enough to spot the endemic and rare Tiburon mariposa lily in bloom. Point Reyes is home to two unique species of native lilac as well as a tiny chocolate-colored checker lily that survives on rocky slopes. Plants naturally group together to form rich habitats. Talley Webb, founder of Journey To Better Therapeutic Consulting has brought together four world-class ultra cyclists to raise awareness of the mental health challenges facing at-risk youth, and resources to help them, through Sky’s The Limit Fund (STLF). On Sunday, June 27, Paul and Yann will “Everest” Camino Alto Drive in Mill Valley — 29,000 ft in one day! The Everest Challenge is a worldwide cycling challenge, riding the equivalent elevation of Mt. Everest in one continuous ride. Come to the show this Friday at the Old Hamilton Theater Building in Novato! Shows begin with a 15-20 minute pre-show with vintage drive-in stuff, trailers and a cartoon. There’s a 15 minute intermission halfway through the presentation with bonus featurettes and raffle prizes. Concessions and raffle tickets are available during pre-show and intermission — please arrive 30-60 minutes before the show if you want to park and watch in the forward row.

Honor: SF Pride 50 Year Celebration

For decades, San Francisco Pride’s Parade and two-day Celebration have brought hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ+ revelers and allies to Downtown San Francisco. As 2020 is a historic 50th anniversary, upward of a million people were expected to attend. Since the COVID-19 pandemic has brought these festivities online, an even larger global audience can now experience the celebrations from the world leader in the Pride movement from the safety and comfort of their own homes. San Francisco Pride will also take part in Global Pride — a 24-hour, live-streamed festival uniting hundreds of Pride organizations from around the world — on Saturday, June 27.
