Cavallo Point—The Lodge at the Golden Gate, the new hotel and retreat at Fort Baker, plays a big role in this issue, both as subject and as backdrop. Then, the resort serves as a romantic setting as we fall forward into autumn Fashion, with Somer Flaherty showing us the shape of styles to come and Sasha Gulish providing the beautiful photography.
In Home, P. J. Bremier learns that, at times, home is where the horse is—in this case at Danehill, the hilltop hideaway high above the Nicasio Reservoir whose owner wanted to create a homestead that embraced her European heritage and her love of all things equestrian.
We travel south and west this month. In Journey, editor-at-large Tim Porter crosses the Caribbean for a wedding in Cartagena, Colombia, and discovers a hot-blooded (and hot) city where the food is magnetic, the culture eclectic and the future one of contradictions. In Go, Mimi Towle visits Hawaii, where a green vacation is easy to find and island sustainability practices abound.
This issue also introduces a new feature in Flavor—recipes from Organic Marin, Recipes from Land to Table, a hot-off-the-press cookbook produced by Marin Magazine and written by Tim Porter and Farina Wong Kingsley that celebrates the organic farmers and ranches of Marin.
