Once upon a time, Richardson Bay was headed to a life as a business area and residential marina. But concerned citizens rushed to its defense and purchased the land to create a sanctuary for birds and other water wildlife. The bay is open to everyone, so long as you don’t disturb any winter birds in hibernation.

When a report was published 30 years ago suggesting a group of environmental activists form to mitigate the destruction of the creek, Friends of Corte Madera was born. They work to develop scientific knowledge of the creeks and water quality, and then to share that information with the public. Friends encourages public participation and awareness through creek clean ups and policy meetings, hoping to bring the county together over the land we share.
