Marin Community Clinics, which provides medical, dental, and behavioral health services to Marin’s underserved population, hosted its annual Summer Solstice Celebration on June 21 at Inn Marin and Suites.

Elected officials, community health ambassadors, and hundreds of engaged supporters of equitable health care in Marin joined together to raise more than $185,000 to support key initiatives, including $44,500 generated during the fund-a-need rally designated for dental x-ray equipment and dental chairs at Marin Community Clinic’s expanding San Rafael dental clinic location.

Marin Community Clinics honored two community health champions during the evening. The first honoree was Grace Hughes, a former board member and longtime Marin resident, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Hughes is also the former CEO of Marin Airporter. The second honoree. Shirin Vakharia, is the director of health and aging at Marin Community Foundation. Vakharia was recognized with the Community Health Champion Award.

Founded in 1972, Marin Community Clinics provides primary care, oral health care, and behavioral health services to those who need it – regardless of race, ethnicity, insurance status, socioeconomic status, immigration status, sexual orientation, or ability to pay. Serving nearly 1 in 5 Marin residents, Marin Community Clinics is the largest FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) in Marin County.
