At Mark Day School, We’re Ready for Anything: How the School has Adapted to Changing Times

Ever since March 2020, school as we know it has looked a bit different. But at Mark Day School in San Rafael, all students K-8 have been in person full-time since September, and throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, they have continued to engage in the hands-on, collaborative curriculum for which Mark Day is known.

The foundation of our success over the past year is what has always driven us: thoughtful, research-based innovation, and a community-wide dedication to educating each child. We believe that deeply knowing every student is critical to helping them learn and grow. For each student, there is a team of educators who work closely with parents and guardians to ensure the student’s academic and social emotional well-being.

Our multidisciplinary curriculum challenges students to stretch just beyond their comfort zones while allowing flexibility to adapt to different learning styles. To thrive in today’s world, students need more complex skills than ever before. At Mark Day School, they build these skills starting in kindergarten, then sharpen and expand them throughout their years here via hands-on, project-based and multidisciplinary lessons/activities. For example, students code robots in the Creativity Lab, lead a Socratic seminar focused on the role of Columbus Day in 21st century America, produce podcasts in our Digital Media Lab’s sound booths, backpack in Yosemite during outdoor ed and more.

One of the most notable components of Mark Day School is our close community. All parents and guardians are part of the Parents’ Association, which offers a host of opportunities to volunteer and connect. We come together for twice-weekly assemblies, events like the Fun Run and Book Exchange, and fall and spring theatrical productions. Students also are encouraged to make cross-grade friendships, particularly through our K/8th and 1st/5th buddy programs.

We believe that diversity and inclusion are essential for academic excellence and responsible world citizenship. We encourage all families to apply and learn more about Mark Day School’s Indexed Tuition program, academic curriculum, extracurricular activities, teachers and community.

We look forward to meeting you!
