Getting Up Close to America's Cup Action

For those looking to feel the wind in their hair as 13-story sailboats go roaring by breakneck speeds, we've got just the ticket. Tickets for on- and off-the-water spectating officially go on sale April 3 at 10 a.m. PT, from bleachers seats on Marina Green to front-row race course viewing aboard some of the Bay Area’s best known boats.

Looking for on-the-water action? The ticket is aboard an official America’s Cup Support Boat, which provides a prime viewing location on the edge of the race course.  There are 12 vessels offering individual and group tickets, all featuring a host of amenities from light snacks to full catering. For example, you can step aboard a piece of history as the USS Potomac steams into yet another America’s Cup, having hosted President Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the 1937 Cup. FDR’s presence at the 1937 races was seen as a mark of support for the American marine industry as part of the president’s New Deal. Charters are also available for parties up to 100 and include an onboard kitchen, big screen TV, and live onboard commentary of the races in an historic and elegant setting. Ticket prices for this National Historic Landmark, now operated by the nonprofit Potomac Association, starting at $125 per person.

For those interested in watching from their own personal boats, be forewarned. Public on-water viewing will be available but it will be beyond the official Support Boat area (as shown on the map above), so public area viewing will be obstructed.

Interested in watching shoreside? Then try the AC stadium seating. The official Race Course Bleachers represent the closest place to view on-land, situated with a great view of the starting line on Marina Green. This option includes an individual seat and access to private restrooms. All seating is general admission, with ticket prices starting at $60. Finish line bleacher tickets are also available for Pier 27/29 at the America’s Cup Park, the hub of activity for the Cup, starting at $15.

Other on-land options include some spectacular views from the “50 yard” line of the course aboard the SS Jeremiah O’Brien or aloft in the Pier 39 Rooftop Lounge, both with full guest amenities such as premium catering and beverage concessions. The last unaltered Liberty Ship in America, the SS Jeremiah O’Brien played a key role in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy and now offers guests a premium on-the-water experience with the convenience of being side-tied shoreside. The Pier 39 Rooftop will provide a true lounge experience, with open seating, live race commentary and amenities included in the price of the ticket. Tickets for the Jeremiah O’Brien start at $110 and the Pier 39 Rooftop at $300.
