Gallery Route One’s Annual Box Show Returns

A San Francisco Bay Area tradition, THE BOX SHOW is an annual showcase of the inventive and ingenious ways works of art can emerge from the starting point of a simple wooden box. This exhibition is not only a remarkable opportunity for artists to flex their creativity in their chosen medium and beyond, but it is also Gallery Route One’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

Gary and Linda Amari, It’s Good to Be(e) Queen; Andrea Apatow, 200 Miracles; Prudy Kohler, In the Blue Zone; Karen Kreidler and Aaron Ludlow, B Sides

In 1999, Gallery Route One gave wooden boxes to local artists to create anything they wished. Twenty-three years later, THE BOX SHOW™ is more popular than ever, annually drawing thousands of people to this major gallery event in the rural West Marin town of Point Reyes Station.

Kristina Schubeck, My Box; Wendy Schwartz, Ruralities; Vasilia Martha Emmanaoulilidies, Box #4; Barry Chuckerman, We the People

For THE BOX SHOW™, Gallery Route One distributes 150 identically sized wooden boxes to 150 artists and aspiring community members, all eager to interpret their art within this unique three-dimensional form. Two months later, an incredibly diverse exhibit of artwork occupies the gallery for five weeks.

Over the course of the show, bidders who want to enjoy an in-person review of the remarkable selection of this year’s box artwork are welcome to visit again, engaging the opportunity to monitor competing bids as they accumulate for each piece. The artworks are also available to view online, and can contact the gallery at 415.663.1347 to place a bid. The last opportunity to bid will be Saturday, August 20 at  3 PM.

Jaine Kopp, Bull Kelp Rising; Scott McBride, Days Gone By; La Ronda Bucciarelli; Pamela’s Perfumery Perfections; Eileen Plichta, Against Everything That Chains You

Proceeds from the exhibition go to fund Gallery Route One’s outreach programs which include: the Latino Photography Project, the Artists in the Schools Program, as well as exhibitions in the Project Space addressing environmental, immigration and social justice issues.
