Side by Side’s annual Reach for the Stars gala, held on November 4 at the Mill Valley Community Center, was musically themed A Night of Jazz. 175 guests enjoyed nibbles and a supper-club style dinner by Sage Catering, rhythmic jazz by Trivo, and afterwards, dancing to the tunes spun by DJ D Sharp. A silent auction, raffle and live auction enabled the nonprofit to raise $145,000 by the close of the evening.
The gala raised critical funds needed for Side By Side’s behavioral and mental health services, which help upwards of 2,500 Bay Area youth and their families in Marin, Alameda, Napa, and Sonoma counties.
Attendees heard from Side By Side’s CEO Dr. Christine Garcia about the current youth mental health crisis and the agency’s mission. California State Senator Mike McGuire was also on hand to support the event as the night’s honorary emcee. Local politicians such as District 2 Marin County Supervisor Katie Rice, and San Anselmo Mayor Steve Burdo stopped by to show their support for youth services. “We are thrilled with the outcome of this year’s gala,” said Garcia. “The enthusiasm and community engagement we witnessed were beyond our expectations.”
