The safest way to get a massage is in the comfort of your home. What better time than now to do something that has been proven to strengthen the immune system and help you function more efficiently?
Kari Iverson (CMT, RYT) is a popular and highly regarded mobile massage therapist, working and traveling in Marin and San Francisco. Her mobile service brings everything to your home — heated table, soft cotton sheets, and organic CBD oils. She started her practice, HELLO Modern Massage, in 2018. Known for her uniquely detailed deep tissue work, Iverson helps clients with everything from everyday aches to chronic conditions.
“When you suffer from depression or physical pain, it can be hard to find relief,” Iverson explains. “Improving overall health and well-being means decreasing physical and emotional tension.”
A massage boosts energy while reducing disease at the same time. For example, a 60-minute massage lowers the stress hormones cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine by an average of 30%. When cortisol levels decline, the feel-good hormones are also increased by an average of 30%. Imagine if a pharmaceutical drug could do that — and with no side effects!
“Serotonin, endorphins, and dopamine are the body’s anti-pain mechanisms — in raising these levels, you are boosting your body’s ability to fight off the feelings of hopelessness linked to depression,” says Iverson. Massage provides emotional balance, which can be just as vital and valuable as the physical benefits. Humans have a need for safe, comforting, nurturing touch.
“My focus as a certified massage therapist is on therapeutic work,” she adds. “I listen to my clients’ needs, and together, we can create a treatment plan that supports them on their unique journey. I have helped many people with chronic pain return to doing all the activities that they love. If you are one of the many who experience anxiety (or are just overloaded with stress!), scheduling a professional massage will be supportive and empowering.”
Iverson, who sees 50-60 clients a month, actually started her career in technology, but she suffered from burnout and decided to find a new path. “I had chronic pain and was looking for a way out,” Iverson says. “Massage was the only thing that helped and had lasting benefits.”
She sees the same injuries often: text neck, or tech neck; thoracic outlet syndrome; upper-crossed syndrome; carpal tunnel and more. The upside of this is that she knows how to help. Dedicated massage therapy sessions done on a regular basis can prevent surgery, medication and costly injections. “My personal physician wishes she could prescribe massage therapy to all her patients,” she adds. “It helps with such a wide range of symptoms.”
Iverson offers one-on-one appointments, subscription services, gift cards and also does pop-ups with Metta Yoga in San Rafael. “Metta Yoga was recently named ‘Best Yoga Studio in Marin 2021,’ and I’m so honored to partner with them,” she says.
