Sausalito Film Series at Cavallo Point Features Moving Docu-Drama on Mother Teresa

You won’t want to miss the Bay Area premiere of “The Letters” – a heart wrenching and inspirational narrative on the life of Mother Teresa. And no, you needn’t be Catholic or even quasi-religious (I promise!) to appreciate this dramatic biopic that explores the life of Mother Teresa through the letters she wrote to her long-time friend and spiritual advisor, Father Celeste van Exem, over a 50-year period of time.

The film will be screened Friday, May 22, at Cavallo Point as part of the ongoing Sausalito Film Series. Juliet Stevenson stars as Mother Teresa and Max von Sydow plays Father Celeste.

Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta in the 1950s and began ministering to the poorest of India’s poor. In 1979, the legendary Catholic nun won the Nobel Peace Prize for her remarkable missionary work; and when she died in 1997, the order had grown to more than 4,000 sisters operating orphanages, hospices and charity centers worldwide.

The evening at Cavallo starts at 6 PM with a hosted reception featuring wines from the Thirty-Seven Winery in Sonoma, Stella Artois beer and appetizers.  At 7 p.m., prior to the screening of the film guests will have an opportunity to hear from the film’s producer and director, William Riead, who also wrote the screen play. Mr. Riead will be interviewed by radio personality Hooman Khalili of Alice Radio fame (97.3 FM).

For tickets ($40) and/or more information go to sausalitofilmseries.com. Proceeds benefit the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce; the Chamber has partnered with the Film Festival since its inception seven years ago, as have Cavallo Point and Marin Magazine.
