Mill Valley and Marin packed the house Thursday night at 142 Throckmorton, paying $125 a seat to hear Bob Weir, Jackie Greene and a rich marquee of other musicians play in Sara Wasserman's fourth-annual fundraiser. The beneficiares: JP / HRO, the Haiti relief organization founded by Sean Penn; and Casa de Milagros, a orphanage that cares for Peruvian children.
In addition to sets by Weir and Greene, the music included a couple of songs by Wasserman's step-dad, self-described Mill Valley denizen Dan Hicks; a rendition of Take Five in honor of recently-departed jazz great Dave Brubeck by Jay Nash of Primus and Lebo of the Animal Liberation Orchestra; and a twangy — what else? — appearance by Les Claypool.
Amid it all, Wasserman and DJ Richard Habib auctioned off a pair of guitars donated by Bananas at Large in San Rafael, one signed signed by all the musicians who played.
