Marin County is going to the dogs this August 4. The Petco 5k9 Walk Run is kicking off its nationwide series at the Marin County Fairgrounds, where runners and their pet companions can come together for a day of fitness and fun. The proceeds of this race, which include a 5K and 1-mile race, will benefit Petaluma Animal Services Foundation and the San Francisco SPCA.

Presented by PurinaProPlan, the 5k9 Walk Run was designed by a group of world-class athletes and coaches who also were dog lovers, includingIRONMAN® triathlon champions Paula Newby-Fraser and Heather Fuhr, and coaches Paul Huddle and Roch Frey. The 5k9 concept is focused on promoting healthy, fit lifestyles across the country while raising funds for animal welfare. 

In addition to the race, the event will feature ahealth and fitness expo for people and pets, including a performance by the Purina Dog Team. Each participant receives a free souvenir race bag as part of their registration.
