Sausalito is well known for its live music concerts along the waterfront, especially Jazz by the Bay every Friday evening during the summer months. And now, back by popular demand, the City of Sausalito is once again offering Arias in the Afternoon – a 2-hour program performed by San Francisco Opera singers – Sunday, August 9.
Like the jazz events, this musical performance is free and staged along the downtown waterfront in Gabrielson Park. Reserved, VIP seating is available (also like Jazz by the Bay). Tables for six that include a bottle of chilled champagne and fresh strawberries cost $75 for residents and $85 for non-residents. To secure a reserved table call Anita in the Sausalito Parks & Recreation Department at 415.289.4152.
The opera arias are sponsored by the Arques Charitable Education Trust and will feature SF Opera Adler Fellows for 2015: Maria Valdes – soprano; Zanda Švēde — mezzo-soprano; Nian Wang, mezzo– soprano; Chong Wang – tenor; Edward Nelson – baritone; accompanied by pianist Ronny Michael Greenberg. The Adler Fellows are up and coming young opera singers who have been selected to participate in the S.F. Opera’s prestigious training program.
It promises to be a picturesque afternoon of entertaining opera, so bring a picnic and your favorite libations, or buy a bottle of chilled Champagne on site. Bravo to the City of Sausalito and Arques Foundation for resurrecting this cultural delight and making it available to all.
