The Art of Food and Wine at Cavallo Point

On March 6-8 – just a weekend away – Cavallo Point in Sausalito is offering an exceptional three-day culinary experience with winemaker dinners, a Master Sommelier tasting, a cooking class and a Grand Tasting.

The 2015 Lexus Culinary Classic is a one-of-a-kind food and wine experience brought to you by the luxury car company in conjunction with its hotel partners –– one of which happens to be Cavallo Point. (If you’ve stayed at the resort you may recall the comfy Lexus SUVs that provide on-site transport from point A-B; a nice touch.) Who knew Lexus had hotel partners? Well, they have 11 of them, and the executive chefs at these high-caliber properties have collaborated to create specialty dishes for the event, complemented by premier wines from 20 prestige vintners in Napa, Sonoma and Marin.

Too bad for you and me, the cooking class and one of the winemaker dinners is already sold out, but it’s not too late to get tickets to the “Seasonal Flavors of America Dinner” Friday, March 6 with four renowned chefs: Kyle Koenig of Topping Rose House, New York; Joseph Lenn of Blackberry Farm, Tennessee; Sunny Jin of The Allison Inn & Spa, Oregon; and our own Ethan Howard of Cavallo Point. They will be offering a four-course menu of seasonal specialties paired with wines.

The “Chow” Italia Hands-On Cooking Experience is sold out, as is the “Feast Among the Wines” winemaker dinner on Saturday, but tickets to the “Somm Phenom: Wine Tasting with Master Sommelier Carlton McCoy” on Saturday afternoon is still available as this goes to press. Carlton, who is one of just 211 Master Sommeliers worldwide, will lead a session featuring an exclusive tasting of Charles Krug vintages dating back to the sixties with an assist from vintner Peter Mondavi.

On Sunday, March 8, 12– 3 p.m., the weekend will conclude with a Grand Tasting featuring food from all the participating chefs and vintners. It is only $100 per person and promises to be a memorable food and wine experience –– at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge no less, one of the most spectacular and iconic venues in the world. I’ll be there. And you should too. What could be more enticing?  Kudos to Cavallo and Lexus for bringing this to Sausalito.
