Dr. Brotman states in his interview (June) with Marin Magazine, “I do not think there would have been an uprising of objectors stating, ‘Don’t you dare bring any money from San Francisco or Sacramento to build a hospital here in Marin.”’ This assertion is misleading in the extreme. Sutter had no need to bring money to Marin to finance its plans. Marin General Hospital has been a cash cow for Sutter. Witness Sutter’s appropriation of over $180 million in “excess cash” (plus millions in management and other fees) during its tenure. In effect Sutter’s “gift” of a new facility would have been paid for by profits on services provided to Marin’s patients. Had Sutter’s offer been accepted, it would have received a new facility paid for by the people of Marin. Now that’s worth objecting to!

Thank you for your lovely article on Inverness. There are an incredible number of activities in West Marin, but as you wrote, there are wonderful things to do right in the Inverness area.
