This year Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday, and Tuesday, unlike it’s more fun-loving weekday counterparts Friday and Saturday, is best known for two things: tacos, and more recently this. So we’re finding ourselves in another one of those party-vortexes like when Fleet Week, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and America’s Cup and more all happened at the same time. Ok, it’s not quite that dramatic, but there are a number of restaurants throughout Marin celebrating the occasion by going the extra step with music, drink specials, and more. Before you start downing shots and dancing around sombreros, we have a pro tip: Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day. Here are our five favorite events — check them out and have fun tonight!
THE CANTINA Offering it’s full menu and converting the parking lot to a beach fiesta (complete with real sand) and 15 first-come, first-served tables. The festivities start around 4 and will also include a beer truck and a jump house for kids ($5 unlimited bouncing), thecantina.com.
GUAYMAS Features include: $3 Tecates, $4.50 Corona bottles, $5 select Margaritas, $7 Cazadores shots, plus an extended happy hour (2-8 p.m.) and a DJ, guaymasrestaurant.com.
MARINITAS You can expect their regular happy hour menu plus Hornitas drink specials and a DJ and dancing from around 9 p.m. to close, marinitas.net.
TACO JANE’S Their regular happy hour plus a DJ, tacojanes.com.
LA PINATA Happy hour specials plus a DJ, lapinatanovato.com.
